Michelin has just set a new endurance record in collaboration with Mercedes-AMG: driving the equivalent of Earth's circumference, a staggering 40,075 km, in under 8 days at a constant speed of 300 km/h. The feat took place at the Nardò circuit in Italy, using the all-electric CONCEPT AMG GT XX, equipped with specially designed MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 energy tires.
Extreme Challenge, Extreme Technology
To maintain that kind of speed over such a long distance, the tires had to be both robust and energy-efficient. Enter the all-new Pilot Sport 5 energy, the result of five years of research. This high-performance tire is engineered to deliver performance, consistency, and energy efficiency thanks to its unique dual-rubber tread architecture. The outer edges use the Energy Passive Compound to reduce energy consumption, while the center features the Adaptive Grip Compound for maximum traction on both dry and wet surfaces. This innovation ensures consistent performance from start to finish, while also reducing the number of required recharges.
The tires came with a bonus tech feature: built-in RFID chips that allow for real-time monitoring and wear optimization. Once again, Michelin proves its expertise in handling complex engineering challenges.

This collaboration between Michelin and Mercedes-AMG isn’t new. In fact, it spans more than 30 years. The success of this endurance record helps validate, under extreme conditions, the very technologies that will be integrated into the commercial MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 energy line launching in 2026.
